Zen Garden

Channeling our inner Buddha, come see!

Zen Buddhists says that all human beings have the potential to attain enlightenment, but their Buddha-nature becomes clouded by ignorance. To overcome this all they have to do is discover that truth for themselves. Zen Buddhism focuses on reaching enlightenment through meditation.

Zen Buddhists design, create and maintain Zen gardens to encourage mindfulness, as a method of meditation. These gardens consist of sand, stones, plants and water and were originally found in Zen monasteries all across the Asian continent.

The year 9 students designed their own Zen gardens and spent time building them while listening to relaxing music. They then destroyed them at the end of the lesson, following another Buddhist belief of impermanence – nothing lasts for ever.

Namaste and Alavida!
